I had a similar experience except it was somone else who hit the deer. My Walther finished him off. I found out that night just how worthless a 32acp really is! The first shot - between the eyes - bounced off. I had to shoot his the 2nd time, this time below the ear. I sold the 32 and got a 380.
With Very Rare exception I always have at least a pistol in the car, sometimes I will also have a Thompson SMG riding along - depends on where I'm going and what I plan to do.
When I get out of the car the pistol is put where it can not be seen and will not be readily found if some one breaks into my vehicle.
