I only use HKS speedloaders, but notice they don't list one for the 8-shot (22LR) S&W 317 J-frame.

Anyone know if another company makes one? Forgive me if the answer is simple, I'm not at all familiar with other brands.

Thanks.

I talked to HKS about a year ago inquiring the possibility of their producing a speedloader for the 317 revolvers.
The disinterested reply I received was that there are not enough of the guns nor is there enough demand to justify tooling up to manufacture speedloaders for this model,,,,,

My limited experience with speedloaders for .22LR is very poor. They won't actually drop cartridges all the way into the chambers because of the heeled .22 bullet and lube. The cartridges MAY go part-way in, and then ya gotta thumb them down to fully seat. If all you want to do is conveniently carry some spare ammo, the MTM ammo wallet is much more convenient.

Or, have I missed the point?

Same as Hutch, they do not go all the way in, seem looser than other cartridges and the 22 LR is really short to use with a speed loader. Just my opinion and experience.

Seems this was the most recent thread I could find on the topic of a speedloader for a 317...

At any rate, anything new anyone knows on the availblity of speedloaders for this model?

I Googled MTM Ammo Wallet, and it just seems to be a way of carrying ammo, not of easily loading it.

FWIW, I like to load up about 8 speedloaders of whatever I shoot ahead of time, just to make the shooting that much more fun. It's especially nice in cold weather.

Any other suggestions/ideas on this topic?

Thanks,

John

317 speed laoder

I have been making custom .22 speed loaders as a hobby (rcmodel found my link), I make mostly 10 shot loaders. But I have had a few requests for others. I just made a few more for the 8 shot 317. These are rare, only 30 made so far. They are a little different than the others I make because the 317 is so small. I had to extend the center bolt an 1/8 inch to keep the loader away from the cylinder to clear the stop on the frame.

You can e-mail me @ "[email protected]" if interested.
