I'm thinking of buying an Alaskan in .44 mag or .454 casull, and I can't get a straight answer anywhere: do speedloaders work with these? I hear certain speedloaders will hold the bullets, but that the fat Hogue grips get in the way. It sounds like these guns would be easier to practice with .44 spl or .45 lc, and it would be more fun with speedloaders on hand.

after unloading a gun full of 454 casull that size are you really gonna be in a hurry to reload it?

I have seen hks speed loaders for them but haven't gotten to try them out myself, I imagine they work just as well as any other hks loader though

The speedloaders for the "N" frame S&W revolvers will work for the same calibers in the Redhawk or the Super Redhawk.

For .454 & .45 Colt, get the HKS #25-5 - not the HKS #25, as it takes the wide rimmed .45 ARs. The #25-5 worked with my .454 SRH & .45 RH years ago - of course works 'more better and gooder' with my .45 Colt 625 MGs. Put me on the list of folks that would never use a #25-5 to speedload .454 Casulls - they should be 'enjoyed' singly. Besides, when I had the SRH, I found that my 625MG could chamber a .454 without it's protruding from the cylinder bore exit - very disconcerting. No personal experience here with a SRH and the HKS #29, but I bet it'll work.

As an aside, the ejector star's axle and the HKS's axle prevent aligning the Auto Rims in the chambers before release - it's more of a 'Bomb's away!' sort of reload with my 625JM.

Thanks to all for the info. Glad to hear HKS loaders will work for either the Alaskan .44 or .45; now I just need to decide which one to get. I'm afraid that if I chose the .454, I'd feel obligated to shoot a few of its intended caliber each session along with .45's. Something tells me I'll be happy topping out at .45+p unless I found myself fishing in Alaska. :D
