Anyone still use the Grand Slam, I got a good deal on 7 boxes of .257 a estate sale. What bullet can I compare it to??

AFAIK, they are good-performing bonded bullets. I have several boxes but never used them on game.
When did they start "bonding" them??

They never use to be, and because of that, weren't all that good of a "premium" bullet, at least NOT by NP standards!!

I don't know if they are actually bonded but I have seen them referred to as "bonded". Here is text from Midway.

Speer Gold Dot Rifle Bullets 30 Caliber (308 Diameter) 150 Grain Bonded Soft Point Box of 50.

Speer used a special bonding process to bond the core to jacket and used a higher antimony lead in the base. I shot one of my best bucks with a 130gr 270 at the awesome range of 25 yards. Shooting down from a tree I hit the buck under the white patch on his throat. The bullet took out 6" of veritbrae, went into the chest and made mush of the lungs and arteries at the top of the heart and stopped under the skin at the end of the sternum. I still have the bullet. It kept over 60% of it's weight. If a bullet was going to break up, it should have done then.

LOT'S of folks think, "Hot Core" means they are bonded, it doesn't...

It's just another way to measure out core size. Some think it eliminates air pockets in the jacket, it does reduce the chances of it, but these days you don't find an air pocket in ANY brand of bullet, they are just swaged under too much pressure to have any.

I haven't found GranSlams to be much better than a hot core of the same weight/design... You can't hit really tough bone with them and not expect them to come apart... (read, core separation)

A "REAL" bonded" core bullet, will NOT loose it's core!

IMHO, GS's are over hyped and over priced...

UNLESS, they have now changed the process and are now bonding them.

BTW, "Deep Curl" bullets are the bonded Speer bullets.

Back in the old days, the Grand Slams had a harder lead in the base of the core and a softer lead toward the nose to encourage improved expansion. They also had a system similar to Hornady's interlock to help keep the harder core in the jacket to ensure deep penetration. My understanding is that they did away with the dual lead cores and interlock system years ago and that the current Grand Slams are just Hot Cores with a flatter tip, slightly thicker jacket, and a slightly harder lead core. Definitely not enough different to command a premium price, in my opinion, at least. But still a decent cup and core bullet, if your rifle likes them.
