Spent Cartridges flying over 3yds

Last year, down at the C.M. Webb public range, a bunch of us were firing from the 200-yard rifle station when the ejected cases from several semi-auto shooters began bouncing off all the bolt and lever shooters, including myself. At this place there is nobody to call the range hot or cold, or to enforce safety.
When everybody reached consensus that the range should go cold, I spoke up in a loud voice and suggested that everybody re-arrange themselves and their targets so that the semi-auto shooters were positioned to the right of everybody else. Everyone went along with that idea. Targets and shooting stations were adjusted accordingly, and everyone had a wonderful morning after that.
By the way, I wonder if there is any handgun that sends ejected shells into low earth orbit like a CZ-52 with its original recoil spring?

Folks are so fussy these days!
We ain't all shooting $200 milsurp junk or "preparing for deadly combat". If not wanting flying cases to put dents in the stock of my Browning 53, or Winchester 1892, or Winchester 1895, or one of my $1500 custom Rugers makes me "fussy", then I guess I'm fussy. Typical response, most folks slinging brass just don't give a damn about anything but making noise. Which is why I'm grateful that I no longer have to endure public shooting ranges and nobody else has to endure my being "fussy".

my mini 14 would be laughing at such lackluster performance.lol. i don't know how far she throws brass but it is far. i dont have an ak, but it doesn't sound too excessive. also welcome to the THR & i hope you enjoy your new rifle.
that's what i was thinking. I've seen them fly over the side berm that is about 5 feet high and 10 feet to my right. Makes it fun for finding spent brass from my mini :(

Another vote for the HK 91. Mine will throw Columbian milsurp 7.62 about 50 ft. On the first page someone mentioned steel cased ammo in a fluted chamber knock-off. That is a no-no as the steel expands into the grooves but does not contract after the pressure drop like brass. $.02. Joe

As long as the gun is getting the spent casings outta there and cycling the next on into the chamber every time you pull the trigger....Well......I personally don't care where the shells fly.

I know, few have the courtesy to care one way or another. I reckon it's the same logic that allows folks to throw cigarette butts on the ground and not consider it littering.

Google "Thompson Autorifle" ( or look it up on Wikipedia)
I remember reading somewhere that during the trials with this rifle it was sticking ejected brass into an oak door at one end of the firing line.:what:

headed to the next county, pistol catageory 7.62x25

Bulgarian 7.62x25 out of my Norinco 54 (TT-33) clone. It was lobbing the spent brass over 10 yards and some of them further if it didn't hit something first.

Impressive.

S&B 7.62x25 was getting high marks (10 to 15 ft) but I don't plan to use the Bulgarian 'fireball' ever again. That stuff was nasty IIRC it had 100% split case necks as well as the foot or so in diameter 'fireball' muzzle blast visible in daylight
woerm
