Spied a S&W 66-3 2 1/2 .357

Decently tight, shoots maybe 1/2 inch to the left at 7 yards but one hole groups.

Has cheesie Pachymer grips.

So, what should I offer for this gun?

For the 2.5 inchers:

These days, anything under $500 is a good deal.

Anything under $400 is a fantastic deal.

They keep creeping up in price and I've seen them sell for $600+.

Offer $400 and be prepared to bargain upwards.

The 2.5 inch version of the Model 66 was introduced in 1974. The 66-3 was introduced in 1986. The -3 models (2.5") started coming from the factory with Uncle Mike's rubber grips in 1994. Check the grips to see if they aren't factory original Uncle Mike's...

just saw one here with Houge grips. they wanted $569. seemed pretty high. i handed it right back. if it was a model 19 2.5 blued with factory stocks, i would have tried to make a deal.

The 66-3 is not pinned & recessed so the collectors are not driving the price up, the 2.5" 66 is however the cat's meow for a carry gun so they are in demand nonetheless. $400-$500 is a fair price range for these. I personally would never pay over $500 for one, even now, because they are not rare enough yet, unless it was 98% and in the box.

I have a 2.5" 66-3. A few years ago I traded a SA loaded 1911 for it. I paid $510 for that Springfield used. It was a jamm-o-matic and i think i got the better end of the deal.

Exactly what Thaddeus Jones said. The 2.5" model 66 S&W's shoot like a laser beam...very accurate. I've got a S&W Performance Center 2.5" 627-PC and my model 66 pictured below is by far more accurate.

i prefer the model 65 3 inch heavy barrel round butt.66 sights would cut my love handles,65 won't.

Ok, so I picked it up. $500 flat. Tax included.

Now I'll have to take the Secret Service grips off my 66-5 and stick 'em on. The 66-5 is in perfect condition so I leave it alone.

Action job first, grips second.

Now I also have a 66-1. Yep recessed chambers pinned barrel., but that one sleeps in the safe to (with a pair of Secret Service grips to!)

But this one I intend on using!

BTW: What do you like most about those Eagle grips (compared to other manufacturers)? I've been thinking about a set for a long time. Guess I need to just pull the trigger and buy some.

Proportionality. At least with short barrels they balance out very well. You little pinkie might have a problem with the grips being as short as the frame but they are concealment grips, not target grips!

I don't think Eagle makes SS grips for my Ruger Security series anymore. Oh well. They do make them for the GP100 and I have a 3 incher that needs them bad!

Yea get a set. They also look real great on J .38s to!

You can see a few of my J .38s with Secret Service grips as well as my 66-5 and the Gp100 that needs a set of 'em.

The Eagle SS grips were the standard grips on the S&W 627-PC 8-shot .357's. They feel a little skimpy to me on a heavy N-frame S&W...better on smaller revolvers.
