Going on my first elk trip this fall, and I'm working up a load for a Mk II Ruger in .338 Mag.

Anyone have a good recommendation regarding the 225 vs 210 grain Partitions?

Ballistics are nearly identical due to the better BC of the 225, but some seem to have better luck with the 210's. I'm sure recoil would be a bit less.

I'm going to put together loads with IMR 4831, RL 19 and maybe IMR-4350. So far my rifle likes the 200 grain ballistic tips mated with 73 grains of IMR 4831 best as far as accuracy. Same bullet with RL-19 was a bit disappointing.

So, theoretically, given similar accuracy, 210 or 225? What say ye?
 
IMHO, I don't think it matters one whit. If you hit 'em right, either will have the same result.

We've nailed them to the dirt with bullets that weighed almost half that.

You know... that's right.

I suppose I could amend my previous statement and say that... Whether you hit 'em right or not, either will have the same result.:D

The OP obviously knew he was "splitting hairs". Hope you fill your tag this year!!

Can't see any reason not go with the 225s since they are basically giving the same ballistics. I know there isn't much difference, but if you're gonna carry a big gun, shoot a big bullet.
 
I'd say go with what you're more comfortable with, and especially what you've got more experience with
 
I would go with the 225.

It's not too much and neither is your choice of weapons.

I'm an '06 180 grain guy but your choice is a great one.
 
It's such a good bullet design I doubt you could tell the difference between the two on a broad side shot.

That being said, the 225gr. holds a slight edge in penetration should you take an angled shot.

I vote 225gr.

But my .338 win. mag. would be loaded with 250gr partitions:evil:
 
Probably depends on the rifle and what provides the best accuracy for you. I have been working with my 338 for several months and it is much happier with the 210 Barnes tripple shocks but every rifle is a bit different. Any quality bullet well placed will be plenty.
 
Whichever is the most accurate out of your rifle. Either will surely have great results, but see if your rifle prefers one over the other. Let it make your decision for you.
 
I vote 225gr with accuracy some what equal.
IMHO, for elk you do NOT have more gun than you need, you have EXACTLY the gun you need.
I use a .300 Win Mag and consider it only adequate. (26 elk taken myself, many others witnessed)
About 8 in 10 drop nicely, the other 2 can amaze you with their will to live.
