new Mini-14. wall seems good enough, take up is what I would call spongy and not smooth. any easy tricks to improve that? not looking to invest in a new trigger group, just curious if I can polish the sear or something in there and if that is a common improvemnt. If so, what is good to polish it with?

You realize it’s a 2-stage trigger, right? Are you talking about the first stage/take-up or do you mean the actual break is creepy?
the take up is what I would call spongy. the wall/break seems clean. I think I would get used to it, but - I'd prefer it be smoother to get to the wall/break.

I sent one trigger to ASI for their work as part of a project to modify one of my mini's. They do good work. Trigger is perfect now. On the other two, I got carbono spring kit, and polished all parts that interacted with others. No metal removal, just a nice polish with a buffer wheel and a little compound. Triggers are now much better.
