Spooked at work....and no protection

LOL it was funny after it happened but the feeling of not being adiquatly protected sucks.

Darrin and I were at a boys group home doing a little work when we got spooked. Standing there in an empty huge house we hear stuff falling, scratching, knocking, and all sorts of noises. Both of us look at each other, and ask....do you have your gun????

Not having our license yet both didnt have our firearms, and I had just unloaded the trunk the night before as I though I wouldnt need anything till the weekend. So there we are with nothing but a couple pocket knives, cat5 crimpers, and side cutters between us. I take Darrin's knife, as it was bigger, and im a bigger guy, to clear the kitchen. Luckly it was empty, nothing in the entire house.

But standing there, hearing noises in what we expected to be an empty house, in basicly the projects......not fun without some sorta protection. Well nothing but my big head.....

I gota go get that permit soon....
 
Glad you are o.k. That home wouldn't by any chance be off of M'boro Rd in Nashville would it? There used to be a home not far from the D.C.S.O. facility that had some troubles a while back.

nah this is one our group homes in clarksville. its one of the few buildings of ours that spooks me from time to time. not to mention the kids we house sometimes can be very .... uh.... violent. I know its against company policy to carry, but know many people that do. basicly dont ask dont tell. considering im on the road alot and end up in some back wooded areas i cant wait to be able to carry....hate driving though some places and feeling rather exposed
 
Glad you guys made out OK.

Four years ago a friend of mine went out to get a pizza for the crew.
45 min. later they got to wondering where he was.
After going out to the parking lot they found him in a coma with a nice big bump on his head.

Security had a great video to watch,(no one was watching as it happened:cuss: ) and got a great discription of the guy doing the beating, but even today no one has been caught or charged.

All this happened within a few yards of some railroad tracks, and the company property is littered with those "NO WEAPONS ON COMPANY PROPERTY" signs.

Didn't stop this jerk from messing up my bud with a Maglight/ pipe,
can't tell from the video.

Moral to the story is...........you just never know if or when.
 
You being from Nashville, you definitely know what I mean about M'boro Rd I'm sure. :) You should receive your permit fairly quick once you complete the course and turn in your paperwork. One word of advice...consider insurance if you do plan to carry, especially what you will be around.
 
Yea I know good old M'borro road ....lovely place to be around at any time of the day huh.

Yea I just moved to brentwood and already feeling my auto insurance is vastly under par. So going to see about upping that a bit, then seeing about some insurance for such situations as using my firearm. Now thats going to be a fun talk with the insurance agent I bet :D luckly its TN Farm Beauru and I know everyone at my local place back home.


And Darrin....I know both of us had to take that leak pretty dang fast soon there after.....
 
Glad everything worked out and you were safe, but a firearm should be your asbsolute last defense. Think of a "defense ladder", with your firearm being the top rung. You're knives would have been near the top too, becuase (even though a lot of firearm enthusiasts put them down) they are still very, very lethal. You are going to run into situations where you will not have your firearm with you, it's Mr. Murphy's most famous law. That is why, if you are serious about personal protection, you should make sure you allways have other options at your disposal and use them as the situation dictates.

And as far as a "defensive ladder" goes... as long as you have your head on your shoulders, you allready have your foot on the first rung.... :)

IMHO, this mindset seperates the trigger happy from the defensive minded.

Bowlcut, I'll give you spooky --

Decades ago, I was doing some electrical work on a retail business my partner and I were trying to open. The building was a big industrial multi-unit in a rural area of Sacramento. It was near midnight and we were working on a scissors lift about 20 feet in the air. We were pulling wire through conduit and our only light was a 60 Watt drop light.

All-of-a-sudden we hear gunfire aimed at the building we're in. And we're way up in the air, backlit. Talk about a sphincter tightening moment.

We turn off the light and get down ASAP. We hear a car take off so we creep outside. We drive off and find a sheriff at a local "Circle K" store. He sure didn't get too excited about our story.

The next morning we found some 20 gauge shells and saw they were shooting at some exterior lights.
 
It's not fear. It's an adrenal response to enhance your natural predatory insticts in order to heighten your response to danger and make you a more deadly adversary. Fear, pssshhhaaa.:rolleyes:

Glad everything is ok.

Really it's not fear really, now like Darrin said move along.:scrutiny:

I was thinking the exact same thing. Especially if you get a set of the really hefty, well-built ones. I'd take my Cat 5 crimper over my Gerber AR3.0 if I were forced to defend myself against a two-legged threat. If I had formal training with a knife, I might change my mind.
 
Why do you feel the need to ask the government for permission to protect your life?
