Before I start writing another check, I just found this thing for dirt cheap and have let the seller know that I'll take it (but of course it's Sunday). It's been rechambered in .300 Savage and looks to be in great shape. Haven't a frickin' clue what I'll do with it----but whatever, it's kinda sexy.

Anything I should be aware of a firearm like this before I commit and say 'Yes'?.......:D

El Mariachi, you have an eye for tastefully-done mil-surp-sporters. Kudos. And I'm encouraging you to buy it.

I'm gonna do my bestest. Would you believe they're selling this for the same price that I paid for my 6-1/2" barreled convertible Rough Rider? Or roughly the cost of a decent first date at a seafood restaraunt and a crappy movie?.....:D

Are you sure it is a Type 38 not an M99? It looks like an M99 that has been "rechambered" in .300 Savage because they couldnt get 7.7X58 cartridges. If so, the bore will be Medford rifled and .312 diameter unless totally re-barreled. This may not be a problem if you do your own reloading and can make .300 Savage ammo loaded with .311-312 diameter bullets, but factory .300 Savage ammo probably will not shoot very accurately.

It's listed with a large firm that (I hope?) knows their stuff, Curator. But I'll verify your info with them as soon as they get back to me.

(and thanx for that heads up.....:D)

Well wow, good job on that note. Even if it hasn't been totally rebarreled, that should be easier on the wallet! And reloading for the rifle isn't that big of deal. If you get it, slug the barrel. You'll know for sure.

:banghead:= me .... yeah well 20hrs no sleep what can i say oh well anyways the reason it dosent have that step is because most jap mausers didnt have them and if they did that barrel was probably worked down on a lathe then
