Spotting Scope Recommendations

Can anyone provide advice recommendations on a spotting scope. This is primarily for seeing .22 cal (and larger) holes on targets at the range, up to 300 yards. I want good eye relief so that i don't have to remove my glasses to check the target. It might get some hunting use in the field, but really I just want it for the range.

What kind of price range did you have in mind? The Bushnell Legend 20-60x80mm will get you close. .22 holes at 300 yards can be difficult. I find that this scope give the best bang for your buck.

Thanks for the reply. I'm hoping to stay in the +/-$500 range, but can go up to $1,000 if that is what it takes. I'll just have to wait a little longer if it is much over $500. 250 yards will be the long side in most cases, but am hoping I can cover the occaisional 300 yard shots too.

The 15X-45X 60mm scope I had was not always adequate to see holes in the black at our 200 yd. range.

I got a Konus 80mm scope and it's much better than the smaller scopes.

It may not be enough to see holes at 300 yds however. You may need to use a special target or backer.

My older spotters were by Selsi & Leupold and were good. The Konus is good quality and the larger lens does matter.

Consider this 100mm scope. That's what I would get for 300 yds.

I see that there is no tripod that comes with this scope. Make sure the one you may have now will work.

Forget about seeing .22 holes at 300yds, no scope will do that unless the conditions are perfect. No mirage, white reflector behind the target, etc.

A quality scope stand is more important than the scope. A $200 Konus will work as well as a $1000 Kowa for shooting sports as long as it's well supported.

You will not have the long eye relief and it will not be as rugged but with your budget I would buy the Konus 80 and the SuperSpotter that Gearbuggie sells. $550 would set you up very well. Add a Creedmoor scope cover for $40 just to put the cherry on top.

If you have a telephoto lens, Kenko makes Lens2Scope adapter that works very well (and costs less than comparable complete scope).

I have that scope and it's nice, but annoying that it won't fit in its case with the eyepiece attached. I use a Creedmoor stand for support.

I bought a scope case from Creedmoor Sports that holds my Konus 100 scope with the eyepiece attached. Very nice case and you don't have to remove the scope from the case. Just unzip what's needed for access.

Bought a Redfield. Crystal clear but eye relief not so good. Must have eye on the rubber at full zoom.

I'll second or is it third the Konus. Did some research read a bunch of reviews and the Konus came out on top for me. I got the 80mm version.
