I have the mind to build a custom 1911 based on a Springfield operator frame. I am not doing this for any other reason than I can, so please, no heckling about my caliber choice and vision :D

I want to start with the frame, I like the operator's lines and the full length rail. The extra mass will also make the side arm comforatble to shoot.

On top, I am going to put a caspian SS slide with trijicon adjustable sights.

I will use a barstow barrel and probably chip mcormick internals.

The frame/slide will be a deep matte black but leave the serrations unfinished for contrast. All the controlls, bushings, rod, extracor and grip screws will be SS as well. The grips will be a warp-around laminate style in a black/silver, or black/grey pattern.

It will use a flat MSH with mag well and black bumpers on the mags.

I decided to go with 9mm because I want a caliber with low recoil potential but still flat enough to 50-75 yard shots without much hold over.

There is my vision.

EVerything in my list is redilly available but the frame.

Does anyone know if Springfield will sell bare frames or is there another source of frames like that?
