I looked at the WWII model alot, but I dont like the sights. I am wondering if by the time I got it upgraded with better sights and a different hammer would it be worth my time to just get a 1911 milspec?

I dont have much experience with 1911's but I am hearing great things about Springfields durability. I want something I can beat the **** out of and know it will always fire, but I cant afford the high end models.

I already have an XD and a Glock, love em both, but the more I handle 1911s and the more i hear about them the more I am thinking its a better choice.

I would upgrade to the milspec or loaded. You may, however, want better sights than you get on a milspec.

You may want to consider Novak sights. You can ship just the slide and they will install their sights on your slide.

If you are looking to upgrade the sights and hammer; look at the loaded model. You'll get more bang for the buck.

Unless you specifically want the GI model for its historical appeal, then the Mil-Spec is the better bet. It has a lot of nice features over the GI model, while still retaining a relatively classic 1911 feel.

It will be cheaper overall to spend a little more for a mil-spec than to up grade a GI. Either will serve you well but if you want better sights and lowered ejection port the Mil-Spec deserves a look. Good luck in your choice : Bill ;)

That's exactly the reason Springfield started the MilSpec -- to provide a few upgrades on the GI at a cost lower than you can get done later. This includes the better sights and the lowered ejection port.
