Springfield 1911 7 or 8 rd Mags

Before you laugh remember, I'm a revolver guy!!

The Springfield 1911 I bought for my son came with a 7 round Mag. I bought him 2 more Mil Spec Mags for $7 each at a show. I noticed most of the 1911 Mags were almost the same and a lot were made by Colt. Will a 8 round Colt 1911 Mag fit in my son's Springfield 1911 Gov't Model? (older pistol, not a new one)

As long as it's for a Government or Commander size, all 1911 magazines in the same caliber are universal regardless of manufacturer.

I know 1911 Mags are universal but what about the round difference. Will a 8 round Mag fit and work correctly my son's Springfield?

AA: Yes, it's no problem at all. Actually you can buy conversion kits to make a standard fixed baseplate 7 round mag into an 8 rounder. And all those are is a different spring and follower. Any factory 8 rounder will fit his gun just fine.
