I sold a Glock 19 Saturday and was able to use the money from the sale to cover a new Springfield Armory Parkerized 1911 Mil Tec 45 for 600 bucks before sales tax and TICS. It comes with two mags, pretty nice carrying box, white dot sights, extra black plastic grips, cleaning rod, plastic Springfield holster, plastic double mag carrier, and wood grips on the gun. I thought the whole package is quite a bargain....it was only 70 bucks more than the GI. I just need to go buy some ball ammo at Wal Mart and start breaking it in when the weather clears up. It was overcast in the Memphis area today.

Have any of you had problems with the SA factory 7 rd mags? I have thought about in the future buying Wilson Combat 8rd mags...the dealer told me he uses them in his Kimber...they seem pretty reasonably priced at 30 bucks...About the only thing I will change is the safety to a larger ambi b/c my wife is left handed....later on mabye Trijicon inserts. Other than that I will leave as is.

Congrats on a nice gun at a nice price.

FYI, It's "Mil Spec", not "Tec."

Wilson mags are great, but not necessary. Your factory mags should work fine, but you can always pick up some Wilson mags eventually.

Never had a problem with them with winchester, federal, remington, or winchester hollow points. Enjoy using them.

That Mil-spec is a great pistol and well worth the price difference over the GI. I bought the same gun this last summer and it has been flawless. The mags have worked well for me and I intend to use the coupon to order several more at $9 bucks apiece.

Congrats, and enjoy your new Mil-spec!

(Now, where are the pics?!!!)

Congrats on your new pistol. I picked up a new SA Mil-Spec in SS a couple of weeks ago. It has been flawless. I only have about 250 rounds through it and have used 5 factory 7 round mags with no troubles yet. Have fun and good luck with your new pistol.

The 1911 feels better in my hand than the Glock because of the single stack mag and general thinness. I also like that standard pressure 45 ACP hollow points work just fine for self defense. I kept my Glock loaded with +P 124 grain speer gold dots. This gives me a much greater variety of SD ammo choices. I'm going to practice a little and then try it at my club's IDPA in custom defense. I think it will be a lot of fun.

i only use springfield armory mags in my champion operator, they're like $13, and i've never had an issue. i have no reason to drop $40 on a wilson mag, which are known to have hit or miss reliability with springer 1911's.

springer's mags are made by metalform, and they work great, my friend.

What are the differences between the Mil-Spec and the stock GI .45?
The biggest difference is the sights. The GI has tiny little "GI" sights and the Mil-Spec has larger 3 dot sights. There are some other differences, but for me that is the biggest one.

the milspec has a lowered and flared ejection port for more positive ejection, and the barrel is throated better for jhp feeding. many of the milspecs are finished in america, whereas all of the GI models are completed in brazil.

the milspecs also have three dot sites, the GI has tiny one's like the original military issue 1911's. the GI has a two piece finished barrel, and the mil spec has a stainless one piece barrel.

Best wishes on your new Mil Spec. Mine purchased within the last year has an insanely heavey trigger pull and has FTF problems. I hope yours is better.
