Springfield EMP and Dan Wesson CBOB

I was hoping to ask some questions of anyone who has either of these pistols or has fired them. As I try to decide between them I am wondering a few things.

I am hoping to buy a pistol that I can initially use as a range gun but eventually start to carry when I am more comfortable with it (this will be my first handgun). I have read that both of these pistols are very accurate and I am set on the 1911 design. One of my questions is, is the Springfield EMP much easier to conceal than the commander size Dan Wesson CBOB? If the difference in size isn't that much then I might like having the 45acp. On the other hand since 9mm is cheaper maybe that would be the best caliber to get so I can practice more often(a plus being as this will be my first handgun)?
I know the 45acp will recoil more but I have fired the round and the recoil did not bother me, so that isn't an issue.

Maybe I am trying to stretch things too much by trying to find a gun that is good for range use and carry? When I say range use I don't mean a competition gun, just one that I can shoot alot and not get annoyed by too much recoil (like in a small size 45, hence the tiny Springfield being 9mm). Just to clarify concerning concealed carry I am about 5'7 and 160lbs.

Any opinions welcome.

I would gladly own an EMP, but I think the CBOB is better suited as a multi-tasker (range and carry). The EMP will be lighter and will conceal a little easier, but the CBOB is not tough to carry or conceal either. It is heavy if you are not used to all steel pistols though. You will trade something to get something...

The main differences I see are sight radius, caliber, and weight. You'll have to figure out where you want to compromise.

Depends on how much money you have,

If you are like me and broke, you will be able to shoot more often with a 9mm, no doubt. That being said, I personally prefer the .45, and shoot it in spite of it costing more.

I go with DW mine has been a great pistol. If you want a small light compact .Colt Defender is relieable 45 and cheaper than the 9mm Springer.
I have several compact 1911's by Colt all have been relieable from day one.
All around range and carry the DW is still the better choice.

No experience with Springer 1911s, but I have two Dan Wesson 1911s, one of which is the CBOB. While I don't carry it because I haven't gotten around to getting my CHL, I would think it is a great carry gun. Since this is your first handgun, and since 9mm ammo is cheaper than .45, you might consider getting a 9mm, then graduating to a .45 once you've done some shooting and feel comfortable. If money is not a concern and you've done enough shooting to feel comfortable with a .45, then go with the CBOB, assuming you can find one. The CBOB is an outstanding 1911 for the price.
