I have a Springfield GI that was sent to Teddy Jacobson for a complete workover, and the pistol has been as reliable as my Glock. Teddy does some amazing work. My only complaint is that the standard GI sights are nothing short of terrible, and I'd like to replace them without having to send my slide to a smith.

What are some sight replacement options for the GI? King sights?

Thanks.

I put a Kings 103 on the front and a Yost on the back and I am very pleased
although it does shoot a little low @ 25yrds with this combo

I know this is going to sound horribly unsophisticated, but what I did was use an opaque white paint as a primer on the front sight, let that dry, then applied some flourescent orange jig paint over that. All the paint was carefully applied with a Q-Tip, and despite my lack of any artistic talent, it looked like it came from the factory that way. The effect on target aquisition time was dramatic.

very nice but I think the OP wants to do it himself without recutting the slide or sending it off to a 'smith...when Teddy did my Kimber...he did the same as birddog to my front sight...colored it in with white followed up with blaze orange...it is quite visible and after about 5 years looks like the day he applied it...I have never aggressively cleaned around the paint but there you go...I think those Kings High Hardballer sights can replace the G.I. ones by the do-it-yourselfer...they look similar to the ones that came on my Mil-Spec...

Yost/Bonitz and Kings

Yost/Bonitz makes a rear sight called the "Retro" model, it fits in the existing rear dovetail cut and has a .140" notch. Kings Gunworks makes medium tennon sights that will fit the existing tennon hole in the front of your slide.
