Springfield IL (AW Ban protest)

Regarding the proposed AW Ban in Illinois:

"the Legislature has been called back for special session on the 17th of August to deal with state pension reform, but this bill could come up at that time."

The fine residents of Illinois shouldn't stand for this.

We should get as many people as possible to BE IN SPRINGFIELD on Aug 17th when the special session resumes, to protest and (if they can be located) to visit our representatives IN PERSON.

TIME IS SHORT.

SPREAD THE WORD. WE NEED TO BE VISIBLE TO SHOW THEM WHO THIS EFFECTS.

We might also have a ruling from the 7th cir by then, and we might also bring up the CCW legislation at that time...

I plan on tracking down my reps and talking to them face to face.

Writing letters and making a phone call is one thing.

Showing up in a suit and tie and explaining how this affects ME and my FAMILY, entirely different.

(For those not adventurous enough to enter the capitol proper, just hold a sign outside that says something like "DON'T BAN MY GUNS" or whatever you feel like saying.. )

Trying to get the IGOLD people rallied up, but I don't know if the ISRA can get any protest plans distributed in time, or if they'd even want to.

Thanks HSO for reopening this thread.

There's not a great deal of time to organize anything large.

I've never tried to organize a protest of any kind - this is more of a personal thing - I want to make my voice heard (politely, but firmly), and plan on doing so. In person.

What they've proposed affects me deeply - I'm a collector of semi-auto, military style rifles, and I *really* enjoy shooting a lot of handguns that would be effected. *

Sure, THIS amendment may not have a snowball's chance of passing. But people said the same thing about FOID way back when...

If it gets passed, NOW or LATER, I don't want to kick myself in the ass for the rest of my life, knowing that I *could* have done SOMETHING about it. All I have is my voice and my opinion, and I will make them known.
