Very early SA with all TRW parts and HR barrel. A Saturday night paint job on a GI glass stock, Harris bi-pod, tuned gas system, NM trigger and sights.

This is another early SA, it's been reamed, screwed&glued, stuffed with Sadlak parts, Wilson NM six groove. These are like me, getting long in the tooth, it may be time for a new build.

You guys with the wood hand guards are you getting any smoke off them from the heat? I have a oversize stock I'm fitting to one rifle and it has a wood hand guard, I'm wasn't sure about using it. I probably don't shoot enough to get it that hot anyway.

No, I don't see why one would unless they were doing mag dump after mag dump. In which case I think you would have just as much smoke coming from the stock as you would from the heat shield. I have run my Garand much harder than this M1A and it has never smoked.

Here's my Scout Squad ...

Nice! I love the M1A, its really hard to fault them. I don't own one but I have a ton of trigger time on them.

What I really love about them are the iron sights. These days a lot of guns have crap sights and are set up for optics. But I prefer irons and Springfield delivers!
