Springfield M1A Socom II Potential Problem

Hello everyone!
I have a Springfield M1A Socom II and a while back I took it out of the safe and discovered that when I titled it I hear a sliding noise coming from within the gas tube, think like the bubble in a level. I've never heard this before and I'm fairly certain that parts shouldn't just be sliding around in there. I haven't had a chance to break it down and inspect it, as I keep all of my guns at my parents house because for some reason they frown on having them at college. Any ideas/suggestions?

It's normal. The gas piston should slide freely fore and aft. Pop the action out of the stock and you can see it move.

Ya know I thought I had! I've had it for years. Guess I gotta try harder.
