Back in June, I sent the guys at Yost Bonitz my Milspec. I bought the gun in 1994 and shot it a lot. Good gun, but I wanted something more and the 1* package offered by Ted Yost seemed like a winner. Problem was that I wanted Heinie Straight 8 sights and not Novaks so my pistol would not qualify for the 1* logo. I got the Yost "Y" instead. :)

I also asked the guys to replace all MIM parts with real steel while they
were in there.

Ted said I would get the pistol back in 2004. I got it December 31st! :D

Here are the results:

The range I am going to today has a NIB Springfield GI for $369. I think I will have to buy it for another project....

AARRRGGH!!! :cuss: Yet another gun that Ted was working on instead of mine!!! In all seriousness though, that's a beautiful piece. It just make sme want my Delta back that much more. By the way, I elected for the "Y" logo on mine too, I think it looks a little classier. Anyway, Ted says my gun should be back before the SHOT showm so I don't have too long to wait. I'll post some pictures, enjoy your new weapon!!

Finally got to try the pistol out a bit over the weekend.

400 rounds of Fiocchi 230gr FMJ lead to 8 FTE. A timing issue. Ejected case would get hung up between the extractor and the barrel as the next round started up the feed ramp. At this point, either the ammo was a bit light or the spring too heavy.

Fired 50 rounds of Speer 230gr Gold Dot with no issues.

Went home and cleaned pistol.

Returned next day and shot 250 rounds of Samsom/IMI 230gr FMJ, 250 rounds of Winchester White Box 230gr FMJ, and 50 rounds of 230gr Federal Hydra Shok. Perfect. Both the Samson and the Winchester have noticeably more "umph" then the Fiocchi.

I use a mix of Wilson and Tripp magazines.

I'm very happy with the pistol fit and finish. I love the Hienie sights.

Picked up a Springfield GI on Sunday. Going to play with it for a while before I decide what to do with it.

Frankly, from what I've seen of Ted's work I'd take that "Y" on any pistol, any day!

Great looking pistol, hoss. I have one of Ted's 1* 1991s and it's a great shooter. His work is top notch.

Ted has another Colt 1991 NRM in the shop right now, and I'm going to request the "Y" as I think it is definitely classy. This gun is going to be rather retro, with the Yost 'milspec' rear sight, and a standard grip safety like yours.

Ain't no sense if having a stock pistol when you can have a custom shooter for twice the price!

GunsnRovers...you said you shot your SA alot. Did you have problems with Fiocchi before it went to Yost-Bonitz?

I don't shoot a lot. I shoot enough to know I'm not very good. ;)

As for the Fiocchi, I have never had trouble before, but this pistol came back with a heavier recoil spring then I had in the pistol prior to the work. Also, as I said, the Fiocchi definately had noticeably less umph then the Winchester White Box and Samsom/IMI that I shot on day two. Between the two factors, I'm pretty sure that was the problem.
