I'm taking a hard look at another 1911, and since I've had good experiences with Springfield in the past, and because this is likely going to become a go to carry piece, I want to not break the bank on a base pistol that will be slightly modified by Wilson Combat (largely to avoid the lead time on a full build). The Springfield Range Officer Compact and Champ have my attention as good base guns since they have forged slides and frames.
Whichever I go with, it's going to get a trigger job full nights sights, Wilson Bulletproof Extractors (two of them fitted so that I have one as a spare) and a bevel and re-finish to black Armor Tuff.
On to my queries.
1. What has everyone's experience been with the Range Officer Compact and Champion specifically?
2. Does anyone know whether the Range Officer Compact and Champion get the 2 piece barrel? If they do use the 2 piece barrel, that's going to eliminate them from the running.
3. Since I don't have ANY experience with a Springfield beyond the full size government platform and the EMP, which would be the officer's frame with a 4" top end, the Compact or the Champ?
