These are both 9mms, the Colt the stainless version. Accuracy was about the same but in the RO there is a touch of creep while the Colt breaks clean. I used 6 mags, the 2 Colts, 2 ROs, a Wilson Combat, and one unknown. The Wilson Combat mag was pathetic with several failures to feed out of 9 rounds. The other mags were flawless as expected. I note that the Wilson Combat has a different configuration of the platform at the top of the mag. The usual advantages apply such as the adjustable sights on the RO and the ability to holster the Colt in a shoulder holster whereas the RO won't, in mine anyway. I must say I prefer the spur hammer on the Colt but that is a personal issue.

I ordered the Colt Commander model w/ blued finish in 9mm. Am anxious to get my paws on it.

So which one gets the nod, the Springfield Armory RO or the Colt Government? In a 9mm./.38 Super 1911 gun I have always preferred the Commander version. Just handles and balances better to me than the full size Government Model.

I giving the nod to the Colt because of the trigger creep, although it's not bad and does give an indication of let off and so might even enhance accuracy. I like the commander too. I have it in Colt 1991A1 .45 caliber. This is as opposed to the combat commander which is little more pricey.

Bullbarrel- I agree with your assessment of the RO trigger, based on my experience. I purchased a new 9mm RO Compact last week and went to the range this weekend to give 'er a go. The gun functioned flawlessly and I like most everything about it, but I am not impressed with the trigger. It was gritty at first, and seemed to smooth out a little bit after the first 100 rounds, but it still doesn't break very cleanly. I'll run another 400-500 rounds through it in the upcoming weeks to see if there's any change in the trigger, and if there isn't a noticeable improvement I'll bring it to the gun shop for a trigger job.

When I got my Colt Lightweight Government a couple of years ago I checked out a half dozen other 1911s that were in the same price range. The Colt had the best overall fit and finish and the best trigger of them all.
