I have a YHM 7.62 suppressor. I am in the market for an M1A (anyone selling any?!? LOL) I have considered the SOCOM or perhaps the SOCOM II, however if I pick one up, I want to be able to utilize my can for it, meaning I will need to mount a YHM QD hider on it. Are you able to remove the SOCOM hider???

Thanks,
Joe

no the SOCOM's flash hider is integrated in into the block for the gas system and will not accept standard M1a or M14 accessories.

Unfortunatly thats the price you pay for the 16in barrel.

Now if you don't mind going a little longer Springfield makes a "Scout" model M1a with an 18in barrel that will allow you to remove/replace the factory muzzle-brake with whatever you please.

edit here's the URL for the scout on SA's website:

This new SOCOM 16 kit from SEI includes a GLFS-D, a DC Vortex flash
eliminator, a DC Vortex comp and it accepts the DC sound suppressor.
The suppressor friendly SOCOM 16 gas plug is available separately.

I will be using this kit on my M14SE 16.25 build
