Hi guys, had a problem today. Took my TRP out shooting last week and wanted to clean it today. I could not get the slide to come free. Pulled the recoil spring, pin, bushing but I had to whack the slide off with a rubber mallet. I tried more lube but had the same problem. It was tight and I had it hit it hard. I pulled my colt 1911 out and that slide went right on the Springfield receiver. I tried to put the Springfield slide on the colt but it bound up. I reassembled the Springfield with the help of that mallet and when it was all back together it functioned wonderfully. The slide looks like it has a little galling right when you first put the slide on the receiver. Any ideas of what to do with this or the warrantee from Springfield arms?

I've only ever broken down five or six 1911s for cleaning so I don't have the experience that some of the members on here have, but I would say that having to use a mallet for disassembly/re-assembly would fall into the "not normal" category - especially for a gun of so much $$$.

I think you should call Springfield and ask them about it.

maybe I don't understand you answer but after I removed the slide, if took out the barrel and still had the problem. I tried just my colt slide without the barrel and it went on fine. it looked like there was a 2 or 3 mil galling on the very back opening of the slide. It seemed to me that a few minutes with a file could solve the problem but I wonder if this is a symptom of something bad. I have contacted springfield and am waiting to hear what they say.

Not normal. Springfield has wonderful warranty service. Give them a call, explain the issue in detail, and they will take care of it.

Ok. Not the lower barrel lug.

I'm a little unclear as to what you mean by "back opening" of the slide.

Is the galling in the rails...sides...or on the center rail where the disconnect makes contact? See photograph.
