Springfield xd 40 s&w ported- slide integrity

The local Armslist has a Springer xd in .40 s&w with the ported slide/barrel. I have shot previously a s&w 4506 that was ported and really like the effect of the porting. I am interested in this Springfield but have read that the slides on these have cracked.

I am wondering if this is just the internet effect blowing a small issue into a big one or if this was on early guns and has been corrected, etc

Any information would be greatly appreciated as well as thoughts on the gun generally
