I checked out a new XD-45 4" at the gun shop today, it pointed and felt quite good. I've had a couple glocks in the past , both pointed high :( I have a Colt 70 Gov 45acp and a Marlin Camp .45 and reload for both. I shot a friends XD-40 and liked it, but don't feel the need to ad another caliber to the loading bench.
Am I missing something by not giving the .40 S&W a chance  The XD is in my price range and I like the 13 rnd mag :) Thanks jj

Same thing you're missing by not getting any other caliber... just won't be a .40sw.

Or is this supposed to be more of a .40sw vs .45acp type thing?

OK, you won't be compromising anything if you have 13 + in .45acp imo. If it's not for carry, have you considered the xd45tac? The one XD offering to which I wish GLOCK had an answer; supposedly the 36T in Jan (but I won't hold my breath).

My vote is to keep your reloading operation streamlined, skip the higher pressured, less potent .40, and add the xd45.

One word, "You will simply love the Springfield Armory XD- .45ACP"~!

I haven't heard many complaints on this great firearm. I own one that was
among the first to arrive in the southeast. Its a 4" (all black) service model.
I bought four (3) extra 13 round magazines; for a grand total of five (5).
Also, I added a Streamlight TLR-1 flashlight too complete the package;
as I didn't care much for the Springer light thats included in some of the
'06 packages. I now use this weapon as my primary handgun for home
"D~! :D

If you are already reloading, it's a sin not load .45ACP :neener: Just, kidding. I have the same dilema, do I load .40 for just one gun? The XD45 is fine pistol. Takes everything I've fed it no problem, even some light reloads (3.5gr bullseye, 230gr TMJ) that would not cycle my 1911. Toss out the holster that comes with it, mag pouch and loader work great. You will not be disappointed.

Thanks all, the XD 45 is on the list :) Now if Springfield were to come out with a XD 10 ??

If your thread was mean't to be a caliber question, then you will definately not be missing out on anything by getting the .45 instead of the .40.

Can't comment on the XD .40 though, I have never shot it, I have shot the XD45, and theres no question that the XD45 service is the next handgun on my list.

When I was looking for a 10mm a few months ago I emailed SA with that same question. Their reply was no. I ended up getting a Dan Wessson 10mm CBOB.

Who knows maybe they'll change their minds if there's enough of a demand.
A 10mm XD would be sweet wouldn't it?

Go with the xd .45 Tactical.

I have the XD .45 Tactical and I also have the service model. You just cannot go wrong with a 13 shot mag in a .45. And for an auto-loader, [they are really not meant to be a target pistols] it shoots very accurately. You will Love it. No this is not a .45 vs .40 thread I love em both!

Have a good One all!

Thus far, the XD45 has been reliable and not fussy about what you feed it. Few folks miss having the thumb safety on this single action pistol, which begs the question of so many folks stating you MUST have a thumb safety on your 1911.

Since they are both (XD and 1911) single action pistols, why the difference?
