Any one ever seen the Springer XD series in .45 GAP? Sold my first
on Thursday (3-10) to a future police officer. I did not know that
the .45 GAP was even offered in the Springfield XD series. It was
a package gun that we sold for $439.95. Makes me think that the
.45 ACP won't be far behind?

Re:xd

I saw the 5" tactical at a gun show last month here in Atlanta for $459. It's been out for a little while. The service and sub compact GAPs should follow later in the year.

I seriously doubt we will ever see a 45 ACP in the XD line, it seems like SA has that well covered in the 1911 models.

From what I've heard they have no plans to offer the XD in .45ACP. The whole point of the GAP is that it can go in the same frame as the .40/.357/9mm with minimal modifications.

I saw one today at the Dayton gun show. It was priced a little less than $400, which I thought was a pretty good price. I agree that the 45 ACP is probably not in the works, for the reasons already stated.

I did pick up my third XD today, a sub compact in .40. :D

The reason for the GAP and not the ACP is that the current frame will take the GAP cartridge with no mods. To use ACP cartridge the grip would have to be lengthened slightly (front to back) which would destroy the main reason most folks buy the XD - the excellent ergonomics and pointability.

There are reasons the XD is popular. It's reliable and less expensive than some alternatives.
I'm still not sold on the 45 gap though. I doubt I'll ever own one.

Actually I think Springfield is about to get behind the .45GAP in a big way.

In the May/June issue of American Handgunner that just came in the mail today they showed a photo of Springfields upcoming 1911 in .45GAP ... here's what the article says:

And how about this nifty, teeny-tiny 1911? It's actually a scaled-down version of their micro-compact and its chambered in .45GAP! Now that finally makes sense. The grip is shortened fore-and-aft by about .25 inches (or so) and it makes it feel like a .380

Apparently the first one of these pistols will be given to anyone who outshoots Rob Leatham as he tries to win his 11th Single Stack Classic this April 29th and 30th at P.A.S.A. Park in Barry Illinois. details on the event here (no mention of the .45GAP 1911 though).

I saw it first advertised about 6 weeks ago and SA has finally updated their website to show the 45GAP. As for the 45ACP, it's the same as mentioned before. I would love to see one in 45ACP as I wouldn't mind the larger grip. Then again, I'm comfortable with the grip of a USP.
