Last Saturday I bought a Springfield XD .45 from a THR member. It was used but as new. I ran 200 rounds through it on Sunday and thought I would give my impressions. It doesn't like light loads, though it feed the wadcutters okay, it wouldn't completely eject them. Full house round nose rounds worked flawlessly. The accuracy was very good, but it takes a little different grip than my other 45s. That 13 round capacity is a good thing also.
The only thing that seemed problematic was that the felt recoil was higher than the other 45s I had shot (HK, Sig, Ruger, 1911, etc). The bore sits a little high compared to the grip. My girlfriend likes shooting the SigP220 but felt the Springfield was uncomfortable to shoot.
On the whole, a very good gun.

I really enjoyed shooting my XD45 it was just a bit big for my hands and it was one of the first generation guns with no option of the smaller mag, hard for me to conceal. I ended up with a XD40sc but I felt the XD45 was a great gun for the money.

glad you like it, i have 2 and i am more than happy with thier performance, and will definetly pown more xd's in the future.

Sounds like you've got a keeper. Personally I find I shoot my XD45 better than my P220, but that's more a factor of the grip fitting my hand a bit better.

Good topic for my first post. I have a XD45 and love it. I don't do much experimentation with ammo as $$$ is an issue, I use Winchester FMJ for the range and Winchester JHP for carry, and have had no issues. The only problem I have had is my fat thumb occasionally hits the slide lock and the slide will lock back before the mag is empty, but I have learned to adjust my grip.

XD45 does not like SWC but does not have problem with my light load for 230LRN. You can add a Don's Fat rod which is heavier than the standard guide rod and it will help with felt recoil. I also recommend getting a trigger/spring kit from Springer Precision which will reduce pre-travel ny 50% and lighter trigger pull to 4.5lb. Go to www.xdtalk.com for infos.

Glad to hear you like your new XD! I love mine, and it's usually my primary carry. Although I can shoot my heavier 1911's better they springer works just fine for a SD gun.

The polymer frame leaves the bottom have a little light and the recoil seems to have more muzzle flip than my 1911's as well but partially do to the weight they seem to handle it a bit better.

It just takes practice as with anything to get used to it. If I am shooting bullseye I will still go to my 1911's, my springer shoots better than I can though.

Merry Christmas!

I have an XD-45 Tactical, which is a fun gun for the range. The accuracy is acceptable, but I am impressed with its reliability. It often occupies the duty for home defense. I shoot FMJ and JHP. It balked once at some jacketed SWC I purchased from Georgia Arms. I have to use a little fire discipline because of its huge capacity. That many rounds available can get expensive in a hurry. My wife likes the grip angle and reduced recoil compared to my other .45 ACPs.

My only gripe is how tightly installed the sights are. I have yet to change them, but I have heard they can wreck a sight pusher. I would like to equip this gun with TFO sights. I may wimp out and have either Canyon Creek or Springer Precision do the sight installation and have trigger work done as well.
