Hi all,

Have been contemplating for months now and have finally decided on one of these 2 pistols.

Could you guys with previous experience please give an opinion on which do you think is the better choice and why. Assume that price is not a factor.

Pls bear in mind that I live in a place where only one gun is allowed per person (would buy both if i could):).

Thanks!

Both are fine guns....
Don't get me wrong I love SIGs(especially my P220 .22lr ;)) but the XDm is a totally better value. SA reliability, holster, mag holder, speed loader, grip adjustments, hi-cap mags (19+1) and brush...at >$600 that's a huge amount less than a SIG Elite
IMO...Your guns picks aren't even in the same class.
The XDm is the pistol to get if you're going to shoot....The SIG is the one to get if you want to brag

Here is the solution:

Go to a rental range. Rent both. Put them both through the same course of fire. Whichever you get a higher score with.... get that one.

I would get the Sig if and only if it had the DAK trigger.

If I could only own one gun, then I would want to get the one with the best reliability and easiest aftermarket support. I am new to firearms, so I don't know which one that would be here! Though I would hazard a guess to XD-M / XD-9 over Sig.

this does make an interesting point.

i was going to say the XD is the more user friendly gun...but when you consider aftermarket support, i'd have to say the Sig

I have never fired the Sig, but I do own a XDm 9mm with about 1000 rounds through it. It is reliable to the point of being boring (in a good way). No failures of any kind yet. It has been shot by myself, members of my family and others of all walks of life and it goes bang every time the trigger is pulled. It is tolerant of all types of ammo that I have tried and does not mind when my wimpy aunt limp-wrists it. I would trust my life to this gun.

The same can probably be said of the Sig. They are beautiful, and I would certainly pick it over the XDm in a beauty contest. If I owned one I would probably like it just as well.

Did you consider...

Did you consider getting a Sig p250?

I think both of the guns that you are considering are excellent choices, but they aren't very flexible/versatile).

If you can only only one gun, I'd strongly recommend the Sig P250. On these guns, the receiver is the part of the gun that is stamped with the serial number. This way, you can mix and match between grip sizes, barrel/slide lengths, and calibers.

If it were me, I'd get one of these three guns: a P250, a Ruger GP100, or a Ruger SP101.

Out of the two guns that you selected, I'd go with the XD(m).

I have no experience with the Sig but I absolutely love my XD9. Found it a couple years back barely used for $300 with 4 high cap mags and trijicon sights. I have personally put about 2500 rounds trhough it with out a single failure. Extremely accurate and I like the trigger. For a striker fired pistol the trigger is great. Light, smooth, and short reset.

I have had a Springfield XD 5 inch, not an XDm, but it was a good gun. Pointed well and was quite accurate for what it was. I'm sure the XDm is even better given it's improvements. I traded that gun a few years ago. I have however carried a Sig 226 for work for a number of years, and it is one of my favorite sidearms. Extremely accurate, reliable, and well made. The elite is just a little nicer to look at and it has a beaver tail out the back. If you are looking at getting any of the Sig Elite models with the wooden grips instead of the aluminum grips on the platinum elites, be aware...if you have small hands the wooden grips are significantly thicker on the back of the grip than the aluminum or the standard plastic grips from the factory. I have very small hands and the wooden grips from sig just don't work for me, hogue rubber grips are the same problem on that gun. The XDm doesn't have that problem and actually has changable back straps so that could be a plus for that one. The sig also has a long double action pull that is a little bit of a reach with small hands, even worse with the wooden elite grips, but that can be solved by the installation of the short reach trigger available from sig at sigsauer.com for about 50 bucks, maybe a little less I can't remember, but I do have the short reach trigger installed on my 229, and it is definitely a worthy investment. I have had my 226 clamped into a machine rest and it consistantly fired .357 sig rounds, in five shot groups, through one smallish hole...accuracy award goes to the sig for sure. But as long as you are talking combat accurate either gun will work. Both are very reliable and very respectable firearms, accuracy goes to sig, pack full of mud and keep working may...or may not...go to the XD based on its looser construction...I don't know I never threw my $900 sig in the mud to find out but it did send many thousand rounds down range without a glitch.

I'd like to point out that we men are visual creatures and having something visually stimulate us goes a long way.. That sexy p229 stainless Elite looks like a modern day Dorothy Stratten

I have had nothing but excellent experiences with anything made by Sig. I also have and XD-m in .40. I prefer the way the sig shoots, feels and handles. It just seems smoother to me.
I really can't say anything bad about the XD, except that I just don't like it as well as the Sig. If possible rent or borrow them both and compare.
