I almost talked myself into buying an XD9 earlier today at the gun store, but I figured I would hold off for a while and get some opinions here. Good stuff? Seems like it would be somewhat easy to carry concealed, any good IWB holsters for it?

Had mine for about 8 weeks now and like it so well i'm thinking of buying another.

Do you have the service model or the SubCompact?

I'm kinda considering both. I looked at a service model today, is the compact the same (aside from size of course).

I noticed the Service model was DA/SA, is the compact the same? (Never seen a picture from behind to see if there's a hammer or not).

The XD standard and compact are both striker fired guns that have a cosistant trigger pull not a DA/SA action at all.

I have the XD 40 service model and the XD9 Subcompact. Both guns have performed way above par and I am thrilled with them.

I have the Service Model in Olive Drab with a Black slide. It has functioned flawlessly through 200 rounds. It is very accurate and fun to shoot. I now have two guns with the "accessory rail" so I think I will purchase an M6 TAC light, mostly because I am a gadget guy.

I had an XD-9 and it was a serviceable pistol.

Although it is striker fired, it is a true single action in that the striker is fully cocked by the slide (and protrudes slightly from the rear of the slide as an indicator).

I couldn't get used to the grip safety feel, and the trigger should really be better for a single action, IMO.

I just traded mine for a Glock 21 in .45ACP, as it will fill the same role of plinking/range use, and I am more accustomed to the Glock's grip and trigger.

YMMV

Probably my next handgun purchase if the price holds-----still working to get a couple rifles off lay-a-way------------so it might be awhile.

I personally havent heard one bad thing about them, regarding the way they function...I shot one...it performed flawlessly, although I wasnt particuarly impressed...not my style, but neither are Glocks and 1911s...yet they are still excellent firearms.

I have had my XD-40 Tactical for about 6 months now and have fired over 1500 rounds of various brands of ammo through it with out a hitch. The only complaint I have is the finish that Springfield is using on these pistols. It almost seems to rub off in your hands. I had my refinished with Duracoat and it eliminated that problem. I also own several 1911s, Berettas, H&Ks, Glocks, Sigs and Smith & Wessons. I have changed my carry gun to the XD. Good Luck and happy shooting.

I was playing around with them at the store. It Felt GREAT!
However, at the time the "jury" was still out on them & I purchased a Sig P239/9 with no regrets. I think I may wait until the XD comes in .45 ACP. THAT would be hard to live without. Come to think of it......life's tough w/o the XD 9mm.

I've had mine for a while now. The grip safety is nice because you never really notice it's there.. The main reason I bought the XD, I was looking for a backup to my Sig and went out shopping, and trigger feel was paramount. Looked at Glocks and CZ but imho the XD has a superior trigger...

Every now and then in history, something outstanding comes along, something that stands out from the norm so much that it fairly leaps into the spotlight. Louis Pasteur and Jonas Salk stand as giants in the field of medicine, , while George Washington Carver's contributions to agriculture shone brilliantly. Chuck Yeager became a legend, performing brilliantly as he shattered the sound barrier in spite of the broken ribs he'd concealed from his USAF superiors. Audie Murphy, a hometown boy from Texas, became the most decorated US Army combat soldier in history for his exploits in World War II.
In the category of small arms, the names of B. Tyler Henry, Hiram Maxim, John Browning and George Luger attained legendary status, as did Sam Colt, Daniel Wesson. John Garand, Eugene Stoner and Mikhail Kalashnikov cast huge shadows in the world of military rifle design, as does Gaston Glock in the world of handguns.

Worst lead in for an article ever.

I bought an XD-9 4" Service Model with the Bi-Tone finish (stainless slide - should hold up better than the blued slide) back in February and have 450 absolutely flawless rounds through it so far. I love it. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat - and just might (sub-compact). I don't really understand how anyone can say they don't like the feel of the grip safety. It's absolutely transparent to me. I don't realize it's there at all when I'm shooting - but I'm glad it is. Very nice feature IMHO. Go for it - you wont be sorry.

If I get one, looks like the only thing that will have to be done is a good coating on the slide and such, might send it to Robar or something :D
