I wish to thank dfariswheel for his post last week about the availability of stainless, spurless K-frame hammers from Gun Parts Corp. I had tried in vain to get an answer from S&W about availability (why do they bother to have a “Customer Service†e-mail link on their web-site if they’re not going to respond?!) and was about to settle for the blued versions offered by Brownells when I saw the post. I quickly ordered two: one for my M66-2 and one for my wife’s M64-3, both with 3†tubes. They arrived yesterday and I just finished fitting them. Since I wished to retain the original hammers intact, I didn’t swap out the sears. As is common, the sears on the replacement hammers were oversized and needed ~0.01†trimmed off with a file. Fortunately, I took *just* the right amount off of both sears on the first try; I wouldn’t have enjoyed the drudgery of repeatedly drifting the sear pin in and out all day! Once the trimming was completed and the edges trued, they meshed perfectly. While I was in there, I stoned some contact points and the end results are the difference between night and day… well, between night and dusk, but you get the picture. They’re sweet! BTW, these spurless hammers are DA-only with no SA cocking notch. (As I wanted it. I don’t want SA capability with a slick-backed hammer; how would I ever *de-cock* it?!) I wish I could post some pictures, but I’m digitally impaired; maybe one of these days!

Steve
