My best friend and fellow knife enthusiast died this past week so despite tight funds I decided to buy a new knife. I got an email from knifecenter.com that Bob Lum folders were on sale so went ahead and ordered one. This is my first Spyderco and first knife with a leaf-style blade. It is made in Seki Japan of VG-10 steel and carbon fiber scales. My initial thoughts...

Shipping was super fast. Ordered on Saturday and arrived on Tuesday.

The carbon fiber scales are very pretty. It's like a weave pattern and as you rotate the knife the pattern seems to move and animate. Interesting.

The blade is almost centered when closed. Close enough for a factory knife.

The knife comes pretty sharp. I haven't used it yet in any cutting tasks except for shaving my forearm which it does with ease.

I would classify the knife as a "gentleman folder" although it has a very wide blade shape which is strange to me. Strange not in a bad way...just different. And I will remember my friend whenever I use it.

The Nishijin is a carbon/glass weave. Beautiful, but slicker than I expected. I gave my Type R to a forum friend.

Sorry to hear about your friend passing. I'm sure they would have wanted you to enjoy the time you have here on Earth including that beautiful blade. Use it in good health.
