Spyderco has released a limited edition knife with the profits from the knives going to the New York Police and Fire Widows and Children Benefit Fund. For more info from Spyderco on their knife or to purchase one from them click here.

We purchased one from Spyderco and are giving it away in this month’s drawing. If anyone is interested you can register for the drawing here. It’s free to register.

Here is a pic of the knife:

The NYC skyline inlay was made from steel from WTC #1.

With a great deal of help and support from many, steel was obtained from World Trade Center Building #1 and the project began (steel removal was videotaped by NYPD crew to verify authenticity). We thought of many possibilities on how to use the steel in a knife (forged into the blade, two steel bars in the handle, etc.). We decided that we didn’t want to melt it, but to create a shape from the raw steel. The design team wanted to use the steel in a way that needed no explanation that it represented the WTC. In the end, we decided to create the New York skyline, as it was before 9-11, silhouetted before the sun. No words necessary.

Because the steel was twisted and deformed, the task of transforming it into delicate, accurate skylines had many challenges. The handling and preparation of the steel, annealing, surfacing, cutting and EDM shaping of the raw steel into skylines was time consuming and expensive. Each piece was then hand sanded and individually coated to prevent rust. Much of the work was done free of charge to assist in the project. The skyline is unique and memorable.

Emphasis mine.

WOW.

How awesome is THAT?

Really cool...
