I've got here a Spyderco Delicia 3" knife that the blade no longer locks into place very well. The blade still catches the locking mechanism but if you push on the back of the blade it will close, almost on my hand a few times. I have cleaned out the lint and dust around the lock as best that I can, didn't know if there was anything else that I could do. This just recently started happening. I have been carrying this knife for about 10 years or so and use it daily pretty much, it's like an extension of my hand it seems. I realize that it may be just worn out I guess.

I am interested as well in a possible replacement knife for daily carry that is somewhat similar and may put the Sperco on "light duty". The Benchmade knives looked nice, also I saw a SOG assisted opening knife at Lowes that looked pretty good too. Please advise, thanks.

Alright I did it, I was at Lowes earlier and found that the SOG Flash II was on sale for $40.00 so I figured that it was meant to be. http://sogknives.com/store/FSA-98.html I'm really likeing the assited opening blade, it seems like a damn good knife for the money at least.

The Flash II is a good knife, and really light weight to boot. I had a Flash I several years ago, but had to leave it overseas in 2001 (long story, I'm sure you can guess). I hope your newest tool serves you well.

Thanks guys, it does seem like a good knife. Sorry hmphargh that you had to leave yours over seas. I plan to take mine south of the boarder, hopefully nothing similar will happen, I have taken the Spyderco before though.

SaMx, I think I will call Spyderco as well and see what they suggest next week. It is great little knife that I have enjoyed having so I would still like to get it fixed.

I have to agree that Spydero will repair/replace the knife and all that needs to be done is send it in for repair/replacement.

FWIW, have you examined (and cleaned, if necessary) the locking notch on the extreme tang of the blade? It can gather lint from pocket carry that eventually keeps the lock bar from fully engaging, and is something that can eventually bother any lockback knife.

Be aware

All that you need to do is contact Spyderco and the replacement will be in the mail. Be aware that Sog, like many other knife manufacturers, sometimes have subsidiary companies that make knives particularly for places such as Lowes and Walmart which aren`t exactly up to their standard. I`m in no way saying that this is the case with your Sog. I would only like for you to be aware.;) Good Luck and Merry Christmas

Thanks again, at first it didn't occur to me to send it in since I have had it so long but I'll try sometime next week to send the Spyderco to get checked out. I did clean it as best I could with an air compressor to blow out dust around the locking mechanizim as well as with a tooth pick and brush. I didn't wash with water, don't know if I should or not.

MRPAPA, hopefully the SOG I got isn't a knock off but it seems very high qulity. It came with a warranty, says it is made of AUS-8 steel I belive and it locks real well. So far I am pretty impressed with it. Is there any way to tell if it is a cheaper version? Just curious, I still plan to hang on to it though.

Soap and water won't hurt it as long as you blow all the water out (and any loosed bellybutton lint it dislodged).

Dee,

I have that SOG Flash II. It's a good little AO folder and no it's not a knock off or made by some other company for them. I've even seen Surefire flashligths at Lowes and those are not knock offs either so there is NOTHING to "be aware of". Now with that being said I would absolutely still contact Spyderco and try to get them to replace or repair the knife. Here is a link to their warranty and repair page. Best of luck.

Don`t worry. Just as Case does, Sog has knives that aren`t up to their normal high standard that they will stick in a plastic package and mass produce for retail store such as Lowes. Please don`t take offense to this. It is a Sog just as the Case knives Lowes carries are Case but as with the Sodbuster that Lowes has which is made by Case, it`s a very low end product. I collect all knives from a buck to 4 digits in bucks and I have all of the knives that Case has placed in Lowes just as I have the Sogs. Whats funny about this is that the Appalachian Trail knives that Lowes also has are just as good or actually probably better built knives than either the Case or the Sogs that they have ...LOLOL. Sad but true. So as I`ve stated, Be Aware

Does the misinformation ever stop ? The same Case Sodbuster Jr. you buy at Lowe's is the same one you get from any online or brick & mortar store.

Thanks again for all of the replys everyone. I sent the Spyderco off today to get checked out. Meanwhile I am really enjoying the SOG that I picked up at Lowes the other day. We'll see what happens.

Spyderco

I just wanted to say that the folks at Spyderco are first class people and really stand behind their product. I sent my knife out as mentioned above and they promtly sent me a brand new "delicia" knife, the new version of the knife I sent in. It sure is great having it back, great company!

You should know the answer to that one.

About the only difference that I can tell is packaging, as I typically get a box as opposed to blister packaging from other stores and Knife Center.

I thought they had a guy at the front of their production line who yelled "alright guys, we have a run of knives for Lowes....you can go ahead and make them extra crappy now"! :D

I think the SOG is a good pocket knife. I like the Spyderco more personally. I agree with the others who said to send in the Spyderco. Then you'll have 2 nice pocket knives instead of one.

Patently untrue. Please disregard any such foolishness as this.

I gave away my spyderco for exactly the reason you describe.

I have found that linerlocks are a more sturdy design and Benchmade has some good ones.
