I am trying to decide between the Stag Arms Model 2 and Model 2T. I'm just starting to get into rifles and this will be my only AR. So I guess my question is am I better off buying a weapon with the rail included or holding off and shopping for a rail later on....if I need one. Are there 'pros' and 'cons' of various rail systems? I handled both today and would like to pick up my new rifle tomorrow.

PS - My reasearch tells me that the Stag Arms is a solid weapon. If I'm off base on this, please let me know. Thanks for your help.

Buy it without rail and if you decide later on you can always add one.

Or you can just get the second one with rail...

Get the Stag 2 not the T.

The rails on the T are too short. Better off picking out better aftermarket rifle length railed foreends. But you can shoot the 2 until that time arrives.

This is me letting you know. :D

Stag isn't all that great. If you are constrained by price I suggest you look at S&W or even better BCM. You are going to pay about 100 bucks more for either of them than you would fr the stag and you will get a far superior weapon for every purpose.

Thanks for the feedback...I have to say I just don't know what to do. There are so many choices on ARs. Is there any particular reason that you don't like Stags?

Same reason I don't like DPMS, Bushmaster, and other companies like them. They cut corners and seem to think that getting by is good enough. I don't see a reason to pay about the same money for a Stag that you would for a company that makes a gun closer to the TDP and has much better QC.

I am not saying that the Stag will blow up on the first round. Many people use them without problems. But I would rather spend my money on something like this that I know is going to work.

If there was a huge price difference between them then I could see the point but we are talking a minor difference in the grand scheme.

i would get the 2 and dress it out after you have some trigger time.

im not a big stag fan, and it might or might not be the flavor of the month, but i have a long time buddy with 3 stags and he loves them.
