Ladies and Gents:

Looking for a little feedback for a project rifle my kid is working on.

He's got an AR lower and I chatted with one retailer about uppers and he suggested a Stag for a functioning, knock-around, workhorse upper.

This is not a precision target rifle he's putting together but one that will ride around in a truck or other 4X4 and get the job done, with a scope.

What say you?

I have a Stag Ar15 carbine as well and I also think Stag makes a very good product. The only thing I can think of that should be corrected in the upper is their gas key can benefit from a better staking.

Stag upper on a Double Star lower...works and shoots fine.

I have a Stag 3L (I'm left handed and just wanted a LH AR), and I couldn't be happier. Never had an issue at all with it.

I think Stag makes a mid-tier upper, at a top tier price. Spikes, BCM, and PSA offer better uppers at prices anywhere slightly more, to significantly less than Stag. Stag isn't bad, but you can certainly get more bang for your buck elsewhere.

Agreed that they are overpriced for what they are.
You can spend less and have better quality.

BCM standard upper, and add MOE handguards or a 2 peice drop in rail.
OR
Palmetto State Armory Hammer forged upper (Barrel by FN). They have a few different configurations, all less than a stag and better quality.
Palmetto also has a great deal on their "Premium BCG" for $109, it is entirely up to mil-specs. Also Spikes tactical BCG from AIMsurplus is also $109 for a totally up to spec BCG
