StagArms plus Package

I am looking at getting a Model 8L sometime in the near future and realized they now offer a "plus Package" option. I was wondering if anyone on here has purchased a rifle through them and included this as an upgrade?

Its only $100 and seems to have some decent additions done but I am confused as to why the twist rate would change.

They changed the twist rate to keep it competitive in the target market the plus package moves the rifle up into. The 1:7 twist offers you the versatility to shoot anything from 55 gr. to 77 gr. lead projectiles. It allows you to shoot the medium to heavy copper solids (which are longer for weight since they're less dense than lead) which require a faster twist.

The $100 is worth it, IMO, to get the proper testing, and the faster twist.


Though I'm not sure why everyone has this sudden fascination with stuffing a piston into a gun that was designed for DI. The Stoner designed piston guns were the AR-18, and Stoner 63. I've never handled a Stoner 63, but I have a little experience with a handful of original AR-18s. The bolt carrier & recoil spring design is significantly different from the AR-15 / M-16. The Kel-Tec SU-16 and HK SL8 use AR-18 bolt & carrier copies. Get your hands on one of those, and you can see how to properly set up an AR-style bolt in a carrier group to use a piston.
