Staged age restriction change?

There is a lot of talk of comprimise now, but I have a different question for you. Would you support a change in minimum age to buy any semi-auto up to 21 (handgun, rifle or shotgun), if at the same time we were to lower the age to 16 or 17 (say same age as drivers license in any given state) for purchase of select firearms, say any single shot, or perhaps sinlge shot with caliber restriction?

No way! If our government can give a machine gun to an 18 year old and send them to war, then an 18 year old should be able to buy whatever kind of firearm they want.

Not a chance. I would be in favor of removing the 21-to-buy-a-pistol (from a dealer) law, though. That would be good.

And remember, in many states there is already no minimum age limit to own a shotgun or rifle, so what you're proposing is not exactly a "compromise." More just another case of us giving up something good in exchange for nothing.

There are a whole bunch of men and women from the ages of 17 to 97, who would beg to differ, as they were handed a gun, and with minimul training, told to go kill your country's enemies.

I agree, I think this makes a wonderful case for why people under the age of 25 shouldn't be allowed to vote.

If you're old enough to
a. Go to war
b. Determine the direction of our country (vote)
c. Get married/make other adult decisions
d. Purchase fertilizer/gasoline/other "weapons of mass destruction"

Then you're old enough to own a marginally more effective firearm than a bolt rifle.

Instead of wasting time posting threads on gun forums about fanciful ways to incrementally give up our rights, maybe it would be better to call/write/email/fax/carrier pigeon a message to your elected representatives stating that you do not support any further restrictions on the rights of law-abiding US citizens.
