Returned to the world of 1911's this week. Purchased a SA stainless Mil-Spec. (Traded in a Beretta 8045F - great gun but never got used to the initial trigger pull.) The Mil-Spec came with non-wraparound Hogue grips with palm swells. Don't know if that's factory or if the factory plastic was defective when my gun shop owner put the gun on display. Anyway, they looked and felt great. Point of this thread is to make sure folks know that SA (and its cohorts in Brazil) is putting together some reallly tightly fitted pistols. Don't talk to me about Kimbers. This pistol was tight and everthing was very nicely fitted. Did I mention it was tight? I actually planned on malfunctions during my initial 100 round range break-in trip. Didn't happen. Perfect function. Very pleased. Had a non-stainless Mil-Spec I traded off some time back. Fit and finish on this stainless is head and shoulders above the non-stainless I had. FYI for potential purchasers.

what does a ss mil-spec cost?? i was looking to get one but haven't made up my mind

The price on mine was $582 (less a generous trade-in). This was from a large gunshop.

Murphster, I just looked at a new SA Champion GI today and it was really tight as well. I also anticipated there being break in hiccups with that pistol because of the fit. Our fullsize GI rattles and it works great. Well I didn't buy the Champion, but it was just good to know there was things available at the store that I liked :D
