I have been looking online at the S/A Mil-Spec 1911 in stainless steel. The pictures on S/A's website dont look very clear as to the finish of the stainless Mil-Spec.

The S/A website says the flats are polished, but the pic doesn't look very polished at all. The pic almost looks as if the whole gun is matte...

My question is, how well polished are the flats from the factory?

Also does anyone have a picture of one that they can upload?

Thanks,
Bill

I have one in stainless. It has a nice finish to it. I know what you are talking about with some of the pics looking almost matte. It is not an extremely bright finish, but it is not matte, either. I would say it is almost a medium, if that makes sense. I do not think you will be disappointed.

Hope this helps!!

Don't own one, but have fondled one at the local gun shop. The polished flats look more like a brushed finish.....like you'd see in a brushed chrome. Think of your kitchen sink....it shines a little, but you're not going to see your reflection in it.

Mine shines a little more than my kitchen sink........Maybe the wife needs to add a little elbow grease to the sink!! "Woman, you ain't finished 'til that sink shines like my pistol!!" :D

Neener Neener's photo's are pretty accurate. Mine is the same. Just enough to shine, but not reflective. A perfect compromise.

I really have never gotten the whole manufacturing and refinishing fad of the whole "matte rounds, brushed flats" thing. I have a semi that's hard chromed, and it's that way. The next gun I have hard chromed I'm going to specify either ALL brushed or ALL matte. I can understand that you wouldn't necessarily want the top of the slide brushed or polished....as that would create glare. But other than that....I just don't get the whole fad.

Thank you everyone! I guess my next purchase will be the s/s Mil-Spec! :)

Neener Neener, those photos answer my question perfectly!!! Thank you!
How does it shoot?

SA Stainless G.I. & MIL-SPEC Finish

Both, weapons are finished very nicely~! ;) I own 2x G.I. models; one is a
parkerized, and the other is a stainless model. I love the parkerized G.I.
model, for a different reason; as it was given too me, by a beloved THR
member as a gift. :scrutiny: :D

I like the stainless models contrasting black sights on top of the stainless
frame. They appear much easier for these old eyes too see~!

The MIL-SPEC (which I also own a parkerized model of it as well), has
a lowered and flared ejection port, 3-dot sights (which is yet easier to
see), and cocobolo wood grips with the Springfield Armory crossed
cannon logo grips. The stainless MIL-SPEC should sell for right at
$599, as per Springfield's 2008 price increase.

Mr. Bill, I took it shooting for the first time today (Not new, got it in a trade). I only put 50 rounds through it because I also have a new XD45 Compact I had to shoot. The pistol shot very well. The 3 dot sights make for easy target acquisition. The 3.5-4 pound trigger pull the previous owner had done didn't hurt any either.......I shot it at about 10 and 15 yards and was hitting near bullseye every time. I am very pleased with it and would highly recommend it. I must say the XD shot very accurately, as well!

"I see in the pics that the gun says Made in Brazil. Funny, the S/A website doesnt show that in their pics. How old is yours?"
All the frames and slides that comprise SA 1911s are forged in Brazil. Period.
Some assembly of some models are done in the U.S.A. and if more than 50% is done in the U.S. the made in Brazil stamp is left off. If more than 50% of the assembly is done in Brazil the "Imbel" made in Brazil stamp goes on. Imbel is the company that makes all of Springfields 1911 frames and slides ,even TRPs and PROs.

Thankyou for the "Made in" info. I wasnt aware of any of this. I had noticed that on the S/A website, all of their pics dont show any "Made in Brazil" on any of their pics. I'll probably be making my purchase with in the next month or so...

Thanks again to everyone!

Mr. Bill, I do not know how old it is. I just recently received it in a trade, so I am not the original owner. I just know I like the way it shoots.....:D
