Hi all,

I want to buy a marlin model 336, but im not sure between the 336c or 336ss. The stainless steel version is really nice, but i wonder if deer can see a flash when hunting on a sunny day, and i notice that stainless steel offer a better rust protection. It will be my first lever action rifle, i know that marlin 336 can be taked apart easily to clean the bore, but can the magasine tube be unscrewd to clean the humidity that can enter this part and make it rust?? that why i looking for stainless steel.
Is anyone got a bleued lever action rifle and had rust problem with it, even when carefully cleaned after each use??

thank you all

seb :)

I have 2 older blued Marlin 336's that I have hunted with on and off for 25 years, and yes, they will rust but will clean up real easy. I just bought a 336SS myself and am excited about not having to worry about rusting. My son and I have hunted with stainless Encores for a few years and have had no problems with deer seeing our guns.

no - and if you think ss flashes, try a highly polished blued rifle. flashes at least as much, probably more.

i have a blue lever gun, no rust problems w/ it, don't remember when it was last cleaned.

I live in the hot, humid south, and I have a Marlin 336 from 1964. Not a speck of rust, and it spent many, many years in a soft case.

I just find blued or parked rifles asthetically pleasing compared to SS.

All but one of mine are blued. Call it tradition, but I like the appearance. With proper care rust is no problem and I live in the humid south. My stainless is a semi custom Ruger 10-22 with Midway sporter barrel and a nice Fajan stock, both of which I caught on a close out sale so I made a really pretty little sporter for a bargin basement price.
