Recently I ordered a stake on Trijicon front sight for my Norinco. Tonight I bought a front sight staking tool off ebay. The question is, can anyone give me their input on this job? Any unforseen difficulties? Advice? I was thinking of adding a little JB weld or red locktite to the underside of the sight for a little extra insurance, is this even necessary? Any help you guys can offer would be great.

You'd be much better off grinding a little 'divot' where the tang of the sight protrudes, so that you can leave an extra bit of metal there than you would be using either loctite or JB Weld.

Be aware, though, that all staked front sights eventually become loose and/or fly off.

I"ll try that. I realize a dovetail is really the best option. I've even considered scrapping the idea and purchasing a slide from Sarco. It's only 109 bucks and already includes the Novak style sights and cuts.

Staking a Trijicon front sight is best done with the $300 buck swaging tool they sell to install them.

Trying to support the sight, while pounding on it with a conventional staking tool, without breaking the Tritium vile is frought with problems.

I've been thinking about that. I've been thinking of maybe selling one of my other .45s to fund a cutting a dovetail and maybe refinishing my Norc in Cera-hide. In the long run I might be happier with that setup. I'll give it a good dehorning and bevel the mag well too. I'll make a real carry piece out of it.

Edit: EGW sell a front sight dove tail with a front sight included. They offer a black target sight or Fiber optic sight. The work + the sight is about 60 bucks. I might try the Fiber optic. I've never had one with a FO sight before.

My local smith has staked sights for me for $12. For that price, I've never been able to justify buying the tool. It's actually the only thing I didn't do myself on my 1911 builds.
