Guy I am using my .357 for home defense and there is no way to practically mount a weapons light to it as you can understand.

What is a good, reliable and bright yet not too expensive standalone flashlight I can use with my revolver for the purposes of defending my home?

Thoughts?

The SureFire 6P/G2 lights have been around forever. I have a G2 that is very good. http://www.surefire.com/illumination/flashlights.html

I also have a Streamlight Scorpion https://www.streamlight.com/en/products/detail/index/scorpion-led

and a simple Streamlight 2AA ProPolymer https://www.streamlight.com/en/products/detail/index/2aa-propolymer-haz-lo

I bought this Pelican for my kids (they are adults) and it would work http://www.pelican-case.com/3315-yellow.html

Whatever you choose, I recommend LED and a single output button. You want it to come on with the light you want without tap dancing your way through button pushes to get the light you want.

I have carried a rechargeable Streamlight Stinger for over 20 years at work. They are a durable quality light.

I have been carrying a thrunite TN12 for about 6 months and really like it. It has 4 or 5 brightness settings and stays on whichever one you had it on when you turn it off. So if I'm out working in a field at night, or want to shine it at the ceiling and light up most of the barn I can make use of the turbo mode, and then at night it goes on the medium setting and sits next to my pistol on the nightstand. Think I gave around $50 for it and the build quality is on par with some of the more expensive lights I have tried.

I have two G2XPro Surefire lights. One is for carry at night, the other goes to work. The one I use for work has been beaten up pretty badly, but it still works just fine. I like the dual power setting which you activate by clicking twice. Simple and effective.

You'll get many different answers; I'll tell you what i use now, and some that I've liked in the past: I use a Bushnell 250 lumen one I got at work, (Walmart) because my son 'borrowed' my SureFire G2, after losing his. I also have Nebo light that sits on my nightstand, the chubby silver model with the glowing red ring. I use the Harries technique because I'm ancient and it's what I learned all those years ago, and it doesn't require a special do-dad to shove into your now uneasy to carry light. (That and with Graham, I always end up pointing the light at the ground....)

I keep a Streamlight Strion LED beside the bed. While not the cheapest light, the rechargeable battery has paid for itself over the past decade since I bought the light. Use it as my primary when working a part time security job.

I use a Fenix TK-50 (D battery 2 cell) I bought on sale.

I've been happy with it. Also have 3 D battery Maglites and then an assortment of smaller lights from Surefire, Streamlight and Fenix, but if I'm at home and I reach for a light along with a pistol to check out a 'Honey, what was that?!!' I typically reach for the Fenix since if I run outa bullets I could hit them with that light and it would likely leave a mark.
