Has anyone been able to replace the BM's stock sights with something easier/quicker to acquire ? FYI-The Crimson Trace 1911 or Officer size lasergrips don't fit. Also, has anyone tried a "home refinishing" product such as Brownells Gun-Kote on their Star. Thanks,

I haven't started yet, but I'm going to test Novum Solutions' Blue Wonder blueing kit on my Star BM. I'm also going to try my hand at custom grips. I haven't decided if I want to try Cocobolo, Horn, or Giraffe leg bone.

As for the sights, the front one is soldered or brazed on, so replacing it shouldn't be too hard. The rear dovetail might have to be recut. I cut the slot in the rear sight deeper and wider and painted the front sight orange. My groups shrank by almost half. I need to cut it slightly deeper though.

Santai,

I am also interested in refinishing my Star BM (from AIM). I love the gun, only negative thing is the finish. I have been considering trying to reblue it myself with one of those kits, (the "cold" reblueing) but I have been warned off of those. (If anyone has a different experience with the kits please post.) Someone suggested home parkerizing was easy, but mentioned that the gun needs to be bead blasted first, and I don't have tools for that.

I am still considering options on what to do. I don't want to dump a whole lot into it, since it only cost me $141. I think I'm going to try to have it reblued or parkerized somewhere if I can find a reasonable price.
