There is absolutely no reason for this thread other than I hadn't seen anything here about the Star BM 9mm pistol lately...
I consider the Star BM to be one of the better firearm bargains on the surplus pistol market..
My Star BM was purchased a couple of years ago for (I think) somewhere around $130.00. An FFL friend got a couple and sold me the best one. He checked it out, and I think polished the feed ramp and such, and I have yet to have it faulter in any way.
I only shoot cheap wwwb ammo thru it, and the darn thing eats 'em up, and is surprisingly accurate at any self defense range.
I would say my Star BM would rate out at somewhere in the low 90 percentile range for condition, and I think at what I paid for it I got a lot of pistol for a little money. My Star was a Guardia Civilia pistol, and I think it probably got carried more than shot.
I've seen some Star BM's that folks have had hard chromed, with nice wooden grips on them and they are BEAUTIFUL. I keep "wanting" to have mine all prettied up.. I just can't seem to get over the fact that a new re-finish job/new grips would cost considerably more than I paid for the sucker to start with and probably won't increase it's resale value $2.00. (Not that I plan to sell it anyway.)
Maybe one day I'll bite the bullet and do it anyway... It sure makes for a neat little "mini-1911" lookalike.
Best Wishes,
