On eBay there seems to be Stars lubricator for sale pretty often, are the older models any better than the new ones? They go for a higher price on eBay than what you can buy them new.

I've got four of the older Star sizer-lubricators, and love them. I'm told the newer ones have some aluminum parts, but since I haven't examined one, I don't know that for a fact.

As for the prices on ebay, it's just like any other auction. People will get into a bidding frenzy sometimes and all reason goes out the window. I've made some pretty good purchases on ebay, though. You just have to watch and know what you're bidding on.

No, I don't have the Magma furnace, but I wish I did. I use two melting pots and have lots of molds. I just keep changing back and forth on the molds as they get too hot.

I also have four of the older Star Lubrisizers, and they are great. I don't think they are necessarily any better than the Magma units, and I don't believe there is any difference in materials of construction. I have seen a few reports of quality control issues with the Magma units, but they are rare, and most people who have them are very satisfied.

As for prices, you have to remember that the $195 price for a Magma unit does not include a die or punch, so add another $47.50 to get those parts from Magma. On ebay, Star Lubrisizers with one punch and die usually go for ~$175.....and since they last forever, its still a good price compared to a Magma.
