Does anyone know if its possable to convert a star progressive press to 9mm from .38 special? :banghead:

1. The Star must be the later "convertible" model with a toolhead that can be changed out.

2. If yes, then you must buy the toolhead and dies, and a shellplate. If you don't have the small primer feed system, add that too.

Step #2 tends to be expensive, as the dies are non-standard and rare. A good man or woman with access to a lathe *could* maybe turn down standard 7/8 dies to fit the system, but I have never confirmed that.

star reloader

the star reloader hasn't been made sence 1979, and that is the biggest shame because it is such a great little machine.

Actually, Stars were made until 1993 when they were selling for over $1000 each. There are two models, the Progressive, and the Universal. The Progressive was for 38 Special Only, while the Universal could be changed to other calibers with the appropriate shell plate and dies. The best way to tell them apart is by looking at the base. The Universal has three adjustable Shell locating Straps at the Sizing, Powder Fill, and Bullet Seating positions, the Progressive does not. You can find a lot more information on Stars at their Forum http://www.starreloaders.com/forum/

If you happen to have a Universal, I have an extra set of dies and Shell Plate for 9mm that I'm willing to part with. I also have a couple extra Star Universals.

Paul Jones the Last Star Dealer and Parts Center

I retired in 1979 with thousands of dollars in Reloaders, Lubers, Caliber Conversion Kits and Parts and was the Star Reloader Reconditioning Center and that is why I have had thousands of dollars worth of just parts.

I formed the Star Reloaders Group List in 2002 with my customers from the 1970's who with me are mentors for new Star owners needing advice. it is not a chat list as the members are professionals, businessmen, Officers and competitors who will answer serious questions. I advise my list members which auctions are worth bidding onand keep them informed to not buy worn out Progressive Reloader parts for their Universals. The list is by invitation.
A professional List designer wanted to take over my list knowing nothing about Stars and when I refused he formed the other Star list which is the chatty list now.

My List is restricted to Star owners and those who want to be Star owners and I am the only source of original parts that I have been selling to my members and on Ebay since I came on the internet in 2002.

I am selling everything out now so my remaining MINT 1970's Unsurpassed Quality Star Reloader Parts , Luber Dies, Original Saeco Co. 4 cavity molds and Fitz pistol grips are being sold while they last.
Email me your email address for lists and Pictures. [email protected]
