I knew they were expensive as all get out but I've never seen one in action to see if they are worth it.

I know they are out of business and parts are getting harder to find.

Parts really aren't a big deal, they don't break, these machines were built to last

That machine is listing for a premium because it is an uncommon caliber to find in a Star. The most uncommon variations tend to bring high prices. Star rifle machines are the most rare, you dont see many of those pop up for sale. These could be set up for anything from .223 to 45-70. As far as parts go, there are some skilled machinists on the Star site that will build parts from scratch if needed/requested.

I had 2 of these, I paid 100.00 each for them and sold them for 675.00 each.
They were in 45 and 38 cal. There made well but I will still take my dillons over them any day. By the way I am one of those "skilled machinists", but I like the more modern loaders.

It isn't all that expensive. In 1979, a new Universal cost $780 with no extras.

That was alot of money back then, the equivalent of $2500 in today's dollars.

A lot of people think older is better, and will pay a high price for these presses. I also prefer my dillons.

My 1050 is my favorite press to run, but the Stars have seen several lesser Dillons come and go

When we were loading commercially we kept two of these things going, one in .38, one in 45 acp. Never had a part break in hundreds of thousands of rounds. Wish I could have afforded to buy them out of the estate when dad passed away. My wife and I could easily load 800 rounds an hour, me feeding and pulling the handle, she filling primer and shell tubes and boxing up the loaded rounds. I think we paid about $700 for the last one in the early '70's.

Star Universal Progressive reloading machines

Used Stars don't normally go for that much money. Someone must have fell into a bidding frenzy... Personally, for myself, $650.00 is the upper limit that I willl pay, and the machines I pay that much money for had better be in very, very good condition.

I just bought two Star Universal Progressive reloading machines in almost like new condition for $650.00 apiece, one in .38 special and the other in 45 ACP. I also just bought another Star Universal Progressive in 45 ACP for $450.00, and I won an eBay bid, on another Star Universal Progressve for $550.00.

I plan on converting some of these machines now in duplicate calibers, into other caliber machines.
