Well, I was gonna buy my first, but I walked into a local shop while on vacation, and found a stag stripped lower for $115, so I picked it up, along with a stag lower parts kit. I plan on buying either a magpul MIAD, or a hogue grip, and upgrading the trigger at some point in the future. Im building a Varmint type of setup and i want either a 20 or 24 inich barrel(Im looking at the Stag model 6h and RRA Varmint A4) and im undecided on a stock, Im currently looking at the ACE FX Skeleton Ultralight, and Magpul PRS.

I, also want to get OD green on the Stock, Grip, and Handguard, Thats why im leaning towards the RRA upper as i can order it with a green Handguard.

Questions:
1. Will a magpul MBUS work as a BUIS(i noticed that the flat top is a little higher than the front sight base, or so it looks)

2. Will I have to buy s buffer as well or will it come with the stock?

3. How do I know if I need a Mil spec or commercial Stock?

Im sure ill have more questions as this thing progresses but thats about it for now, Thanks!!

The buffer tube may come with the stock, just depends which you buy. Most don't I don't think. Get a commercial stock.

Mil-spec or commercial stock depends on your buffer tube diameter (mil-spec or commercial). Either one will work, they just have to be the same.

If your stock comes as an entire kit, including receiver extension, then it will likely include a buffer and buffer spring too (VLTOR sells kits like this). If you're just buying the stock, you'll need to get the receiver extension, buffer, and spring separately.

Just remember this about mil-spec versus commercial:

This is a mil-spec bed. That doesn't mean it's better than a commercial bed.

Haha, that bed picture ends up on every AR15 thread :neener:

Makes me want to try one out, I heard the springs are MPI tested and shot peened, as well the bolts are properly staked. I had to redo the ones on my serta.

If your building a varmint rifle you want a free float front tube, so the calvary arms, etc is really not a option. I don't follow what color comes on basic free float tubes but you may have to live with black or paint it. The A2 stock comes in green also, I would just buy it, I have that on my 50bmg and LR-308 24" SS and its a very good stock. You can use a rifle standard cheek rest or screw in a hole for kydex one if needed. Its really a good size and affortable. Probably not an issue in 223 but you can get a Mason recoil pad for them, that works marginal but looks OEM (have one on my LR-308), or a Medium limpsaver slip on fits perfect and takes out most recoil, does not look great but I use a cheek rest over it so its not really seen (use on my 50bmg). I would not worry about a ultralight stock on a rifle that is already end heavy with a long barrel, you may even want to ADD weight to the standard A2 stock. I would also suggest you consider a palm shelf grip. Any extra funds could go to buying a ultralight bipod since you want to save weight on that end as much as you can.
